Susan K. really wanted to quit drinking…

Friday, November 6th, 2009

But, no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t make it happen. She didn’t feel good about herself that she was so controlled by alcohol. She felt that the guys she dated were mostly about drinking and partying. So many of them were guys she never would have gone out with in the past. And she just hated going to work every day with a hangover. It made the days so long!

Other areas of Susan’s life were good. She ate healthy foods. She tried to exercise, but, at the end of the day, when it was a choice between going to the gym and having a great dinner with a bottle of wine, who wouldn’t choose the latter? The problem was that she couldn’t stop at one or two drinks. She stopped when she passed out.

One morning, after a long trip to Denver for a mini-vacation in Aspen, her life totally changed. She was driving with her new boyfriend, Luke. They were having a ball drinking Vodka and singing Country Western tunes at the top of their lungs. She drove up a long hill, and then the Rocky Mountains appeared before her in all their grandeur. She had seen the Rockies before, but today, something was different. The impact of the beauty stunned her. The effect it had was almost unsettling.

And then it happened. A voice whispered into her ear and said, “You don’t have to do this anymore.” She looked around. She knew it wasn’t Luke. He was too out there.  But where did it come from? Then, she heard it again - YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE! This time it was louder, more forceful. It was like a higher power sweeping down from the heavens to make her pay attention.

The voice was powerful, but soft at the same time. Tears ran down her cheeks. She didn’t know why it affected her like it did, but it hit her like a rock. Something had happened to her. The gig was up. She was done. It was time to start over.

And “start over” she did.  She went directly to an AA meeting in Aspen, and everything changed. The desire was gone. The craving was gone. Something inexplicable had happened and her life opened in ways that she could never have imagined.

Step 6 - Do What Prospers You

40’s Is The New 30’s?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

How many times have you heard that?  As excerpted from a great article by Shane Kreider, you probably have heard that expression a lot.  And guess what, “From a financial viewpoint, it means our money has to last ten years longer, but we also have ten extra years to make it. It also means we have ten extra years to apply our entrepreneurial skills to make us happy.”

According to Shane, “The expression also has a scientific explanation. It’s a different way of looking at age - it’s not how long you’ve lived, it’s how long you’ve got left. As our expected life span gets longer, ‘middle age’ happens later; some say we are therefore in the same cycle of life at 40 that our parents were in at 30. And as our life span is supposed to continue to increase, middle age is coming later and later. Expected life span is different from country to country but in Germany, for example, scientists say that by 2050, middle age (for Germans) will begin around age 52.”

And there is also a great way to look at this and that is about the attitude you have.  Many of us refuse to buy into the idea of “getting older”.  I personally feel the same way now as I did at 30.  Maybe there are some bones cracking more often, but in my mind, I am 30.  I have another 50 years at least, to learn, grow, prosper and excel in all my life areas.

So as Shane says, “If you get out of bed some mornings feeling old, remember this: scientifically speaking, you’re actually ten years younger. Then have a good day.”

Lose 5 Pounds Fast!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

imagesWant to lose 5 pounds in one week? Well, one of my friends has been trying to take off 5 pounds for over 3 years. She’s tried everything and nothing had worked.

Then one night, after her husband came home after late, she served him his dinner and as usual, he started complaining. He growled that the chicken was too dry, the rice was overcooked, and the vegetables didn’t go with the meal. Finally, she realized that she was under appreciated for this generous act. After all, he always came in late since he HAD to workout after his job. She realized that she was always eating after 10:00 PM to please him, and that maybe that was why she wasn’t losing weight.

The next morning she announced that she was taking a break from cooking his dinners doing the week and that he was on his own. She cooked her own meals, ate early and tried to diet again. Voila! Within a week,

Those dreaded pounds were off.

You Had Better Be Running!

lionEvery morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up.

It knows that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.  Every morning a lion wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle;

WHEN THE SUN COMES UP, YOU HAD BETTER BE RUNNING!

Is Massive Abundance About Being Selfish?

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

budda“Massive Abundance”, the book, is about looking at the massive abundance in one’s life and finding ways to have more passion, to make a difference, and to love life.  It is about taking a good look at what you are doing—in all areas of your life, and making conscious, intentional decisions about which parts you would like to keep and which parts you would like to discard.  And it is important to note:   it is okay to want to make yourself a better spiritual, physical and financial self.  Many people frequently ask us if this concept is being selfish or if this is self serving. And we say yes!  It is important to make yourself strong in all areas of your life so that you can be the best person you can be to then go out and help others, love others and serve others — and do it from your strongest self possible.  So go out today and find your MA self!
